The show I used that shows science is the show Breaking Bad. the show uses chemistry throughout the whole show for making money. the main character Walter White uses his knowledge in chemistry to cook the meth drug to make money for his family while he battles cancer. I believe that the show needs to dumb it down for the audiences to some what be able to follow along with the show. shows like the Big Bang Theory doesn't dumb it down. I love the show but on many occasion I am not able to understand the language in which Lenard and Sheldon talk in. they are physicists that go about they everyday life while Lenard tries and woo his romantic interest Penny. these shows don't pose any threat in my mind but I find it kind of of cool how a chemistry teacher could leave his teaching career to become one of the biggest and best drug lord in the state of Arizona.  I think that people my age would agree or at least everyone who watches the show. if they didn't feel the same way I do then why would you watch the show? I believe that the reason the show is so popular because it uses science to commit crime. I also think that science is always going to be interesting along as you add a storyline. I think as generations come and go people are leaving the science books and want to see or experience science up close and personal. people will like to relate to science which would make it more interesting to them.

My thinking on science and technology has changed a lot since I've started taking this class. it has change because I have learned so much about how technology has changed over time. I believe that technology will continue to grow and make life for us better. after taking this class you could go either way in thinking that the evolution of technology is a bad thing for humanity. movies like the matrix, terminator, and novels like Frankenstein scare us in to thinking that if humans do surpass us they could become evil and dangerous to humanity. I think that I'm more of a science person now. I think its intriguing how far we have come and where we are going with technology. Ray Kurzweil's believes that technology is accelerating at a face pace and I agree with him. things like robots showing emotion is a big step in science. soon we will not be able to tell whether a robot is a human or not. that would be a problem we would be posed upon us just like in the Philip k. dick graphic novel  where the characters cant tell whether humans are androids or not. after taking this course it has made me more optimistic about the future of technology. for example I am excited to hear about the new Google glasses to come out. films like the terminator where robots are bad doesn't seem realistic to me so until that happens I'd have to be pretty happy to see where technology is going.

Rosalind Franklin was a biophysicist who made critical contributions to science. she was the first person to discover the double helix strand DNA. At the time no one would believe that she had made such a grand discovery. the reason for it was that she was a women and during the time that she was alive, women weren't viewed as equals. she was then awarded the noble piece prize after a couple of years she had died. its a shame that she couldn't have been recognized when she was alive. her contribution to science opened up the idea to look further into how DNA affects the body. also why DNA is so important to all living things. Crick and Watson were other pair of scientists that did contributions involving DNA. Rosalind hinted to Crick and Watson her hypothesis on DNA and didn't get credit for it. the credit went Crick and Watson which was published first to the public. Rosalind had published a couple of works on DNA. she also did other things in science such as the polio  and the tobacco mosaic virus. She is one of Science most intriguing women that wasn't  recognized enough when she should been.

the first source is more background and some philosophy on the film. the second source is the visionary video of Ray Kurzweil discussing the accelerated power of technology.

The clip I chose was the fight scene between Neo and Agent Smith. the clip shows that robots can go wrong. Agent smith is preventing Neo and the rebels from taking back humanity from the machines that has had them in prison in the virtual world of the Matrix. this clip is terrifying to people because it wouldn't be good to know that a virus type robot could take over you body and use you as a host. I believe that humans have warmed up to robots because technology and scientist have made them friendly. although that is the case there are then movies that leaves us thinking that maybe robots could one day have a mind of its own and could be harmful to humanity. I think that people will leave the fear of robots because of what they can do for us. technology are making it so that robots in the future could make life for us easier. Matrix portrays robots as intelligent which is similar to David Gelernter's idea that one day robots will surpass humans intelligence.

I am thinking of doing my research paper on topic #6. Topic 6 is portraying robots and clones in film. I'm thinking of using the movie the Matrix. I think it is a good movie to show many examples of how robots and machines could be viewed in the future. the movie has many philosophical views like man vs. machine. matrix is one of my favorite movies and I've never viewed it or researched about it. I  believe that doing my paper on this topic will help me view the movie in terms of what message the film maker is trying to tell to the audience. I could use stories that we have read in class to also help me with my topic. I could maybe compare the film to the works in class.

Hi I'm Dennis Saunders and I'm in my second year at LaGuardia CC. I am currently studying liberal arts math and science. I hope to change my major to something that would interest me more then liberal arts. I love sports so I hope to choose a major where I can get a job in sports whether it be analyzing or playing it.
I believe that I am a science person much more than a humanism. I'm  a big fan of technology and all the progress that has been done with technology. Although I'm a fan of technology I don't own too many gadgets. the only think I own is my android phone and a couple of video games. I have had past experience with technology when I was in second grade. I was asked to create a gadget that would benefit us in the future. my science project actually won 1st place in the science fair. it makes me think positively about technology because there are so many things out there that can help humanity by making our lives a little more easier. Today in America I believe there is a mix feeling about technology. Some people can not live without their gadgets making them a prisoner to technology, where as other people see it as technology taking over humanity. I believe that some humans do see science as an explanation of how things occur in the world.
